Unlike traditional web converters and captioning portals that force you to upload your files to remote cloud servers, Crate operates entirely within your web browser:
- Zero Video/Audio Uploads: When you drag an MP4, MOV, or audio file into Crate Captions or the Video Compressor, the media file is loaded directly into your browser's local memory (RAM). Not a single byte of your video or audio is ever uploaded across the internet to our servers.
- Zero Image Uploads: Photos processed in the Image Compressor or Background Remover are analyzed and rendered on your local device using the HTML5 Canvas API and Web Workers.
- Zero Cloud Speech APIs: Speech recognition models execute locally on your computer via WebAssembly. Transcripts, timestamps, and captions are computed locally without third-party AI API calls.
- Direct P2P File Transfers: In Crate Drop, files sent between users stream directly from peer to peer using WebRTC DataChannels encrypted with DTLS/SCTP. Our signaling server facilitates the initial handshake but never sees, touches, or stores your transferred data.
3. Log Files and Web Analytics
Like almost all modern website hosting platforms, Crate follows standard logging procedures. When you visit our website, our hosting infrastructure (such as Vercel and Cloudflare CDN) automatically logs non-personally identifiable technical information.
These log entries may include:
